Abstract

The conventual Franciscan Lope de Salinas promoted a reformist fraternity in the Burgos area in the mid-15th century, which included friars and Tertiaries and which gave rise to the Custody of Santa María de los Menores. They shared the same spiritual proposal whose doctrinal references are found in Francis of Assisi and other important figures such as Angela of Foligno and Clare of Assisi. The characteristics of this proposal are studied here, as well as the defining features of the female tertiary way of life, which offers a particularly notable link with Angela of Foligno. Poverty, mental prayer, visionary liturgy and prophecy were the main foundations of this reform proposal. Here is raised the possibility of pointing out connections with the great prophetess and tertiary reformer of the turn from the 15th to the 16th century, Juana de la Cruz.
